Triennial of Photography Hamburg BREAKING POINT. June – September 2018

Photobook Space with curated exhibitions and accompanying events

The photograph and the book walk hand in hand almost since the beginning of the photographic medium. The first image fixed on paper made by Nicéphore Niépce is dated 1827. The first photography book was made by Anna Atkins in 1843. Imagine the time between the invention of Graham Bell and your first mobile phone!
Today many photographers consider a book as an art piece itself, as valid as a print or an exhibition and not only as a “best of” compilation of their images.

Photobooks have enjoyed outstanding public and institutional recognition and have raised their importance over the last years.
[PHOTOBOOK SPACE] is referring to this new book culture. The Triennial-Photobook Space consists of few curated exhibitions and accompanying events: We show to the shortlist 2017 of the prestigious Paris Photo-Aperture Foundation prize, whose winner is MonsantoA Photographic Investigation by Mathieu Asselin, and the selection of the jury of the Kassel Photobook Festival, the Dummy Award 2018 and the Photobook Award 2018.

Additionally, we present a free choice of extraordinary photo books on the theme of the 7th Triennial of Photography Hamburg Breaking Point, curated by Rémi Coignet (The Eyes Magazine, Paris) and Katrin Hiller (Bookshop at the House of Photography, Deichtorhallen Hamburg).
